Dr Allin trained at the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia in medicine, surgery and anaesthesia . He entered practice in 1967 and has been in Port Perry at this office since 1969. He has been a Coroner since 1973 and an assistant Professor with the Department of Community and Family Medicine at U of T for 30 yrs. Dr Alllin’s practice now is limited to medicine, minor surgery, anaesthesia, pediatrics and coroners investigations.

Dr Best has a special interest in women's health and paediatrics although she enjoy's every stage of the lifecycle. She does shared care obstetrics which means that she will look after the pregnancy until 26-28 weeks at which time an obstetrician will take over your care. She will continue to see you though for counselling on issues such as pain management in labour and breastfeeding.
Dr. Best obtained her Undergraduate Degree - Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto with a major in Biology and minor in Anthropology and obtained her MD through McMaster University Health Sciences. She also received specialty training in Rural Family Medicine through the University of Toronto.
Dr. Best has active privileges at Lakeridge Health Port Perry Hospital. She look's after her patients when they are admitted, counsel's new mothers in regards to breastfeeding and assists in the OR. She also has courtesy privileges at Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Merrilee Brown has been working in Port Perry since July 1998. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and Science (summa cum laude) from McMaster University in 1991. She completed her medical school training at the University of Western Ontario (Meds '95). She completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa in 1997. Following her heart, she went to Alberta and performed locum tenens work in rural Alberta to be with her husband, Steve Gray. They returned in 1998. Since then, Dr. Brown has done Emergency Room work, home based palliative care consultation, Hospital inpatient work, OR assist and teaching medical students and residents. She has won numerous awards including the OCFP Community Teacher of the Year award in 2004, the Hollister King Rural Teaching Award in 2006 and the Rural Ontario Medical Programme's Postgradaute Preceptor of the Year in 2008. She was granted a Rural Service Award from the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada in 2008. She presently has teaching appointments from University of Toronto and Queens Universities, is Co-Chair of the Professional Development Committee for the University of Toronto Department of Family and Community Medicine and sits on the National Joint Committee on Rural Education.
They have two children Alastair, born in 2002 and Sophie, born in 2004. In her spare time, she is an avid reader, is restoring their 140 year old house and bakes great chocolate chip
cookies.

Dr. Antonietta Chiella completed a B.Sc at the University of Toronto and her MD and CCFP at the University of Western Ontario. She has a strong interest in health promotion and women's health. Dr. Chiella has been in Port Perry since April 2008 and prior to that, practiced in Toronto for 3 years. She currently runs a family medicine practice including clinic, urgent care, inpatient hospital care, OR assist and is a consultant on the Durham North Palliative Care Team.

Dr. Amita Dayal is a family physician who started post secondary education at York University in Toronto. She received her BSc degree in Biology then spent 4 years in London, Ontario at the University of Western Ontario at the Faculty of Medicine. After graduating medical school in 2003 she entered the University of Toronto's Rural Residency program in Family Medicine. She spent the second year of the two year program in Port Perry and after receiving her certification of Family Medicine decided to start her practice (and her family) here. She and her husband just welcomed their first child - a little girl.
Dr Dayal currently spends 1 day a week at the clinic in Sunderland (usually Mondays). She also works in the Port Perry Emergency Department and Urgent Care Clinic. Dr Dayal takes care of her own patients when they are admitted in the Port Perry Hospital and assists the surgeons in the Operating Room periodically. The rest of her time is spent in her family practice clinic at Medical Associates. Part of Dr Dayal’s practice is dedicated to prenatal care, obstetrical care and well baby care. She delivers babies at the New Life Centre and takes part in the Obstetrics call schedule. She is also involved in the teaching program that involves family medicine residents and occasionally medical students.

Dr. Kim Ferguson is a rural family doctor practicing in Port Perry since 2003. She graduated from the university of Toronto Medicine and Residency Programs. Her practice includes Family Medicine, Obstetrics, Emergency medicine, Urgent Care, Inpatient Care, Surgical Assist and Minor Procedures. Additional responsibilities include Continuing medical Education Director, Physician for the Mississauga First Nation Community and preceptor for the Queen’s and U of T residency programs.
Kim lives in Port Perry with her husband, 2 teenage children and her mother. She has been a Scugog Community member for over 20 years. In her spare time she enjoys boating, gardening, woodworking and cooking. Active interests include golf, cycling and power walking.

Dr. Sandra Hyshka graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1994, and completed her residency in family medicine in 1996. She has worked in Port Perry since 1996. The scope of her practice includes pediatrics, general family medicine, shared prenatal care . She is also involved in emergency medicine and inpatient care through Lakeridge Health Port Perry.

Dr. Nancy Kazarian is a family doctor whose practice includes family practice, inpatient hospital care, walk in clinic care, as well as a special interest in obstetrics. She is also an active teaching preceptor for medical residents in their final year of training through the University of Toronto and Queen's University Schools of Medicine.
Dr Kazarian is currently the physician leader for the Maternal Child Program at the Lakeridge Health Port Perry site.

Dr. Gordon Mercer has practiced medicine in Port Perry since February 1989. He enjoys all aspects of medicine and includes in his work : office, hospital care, Emergency shifts, nursing home care, delivery babies and assisting in the O.R. He has been Chief of Staff at the hospital but learned that he prefers spending time with his patients instead. For the last decade, he has enjoyed participating in training resident doctors from the University of Toronto and Queen's University in Kingston.

Dr Pawley moved to the Port Perry area in September 2007, after practicing in Calgary Alberta for 10 years. She practices 2 1/2 days a week and also does hospital inpatient services, surgical assisting and Urgent care clinic. She obtained her MD from Queen's university, (1996) and her CCFP (1998) from University of Calgary. She also holds a Master's Degree in Neuropharmacology

Dr. Steve Russell moved from Yellowknife, NWT to Port Perry in 1993. Dr. Russell received his medical degree from Queen's University in 1989 and completed his Family Medicine residency at Queen's University and it's Northern Ontario affiliates.
In addition to general family practice, Dr. Russell works in the Emergency Department at the Port Perry Hospital, cares for in-patients, and works in the Urgent Care on a rotating basis. He also has an interest in Palliative Care, and acts as the Physician Leader for the Port Perry Palliative Care Team.
Dr. Russell and his wife have travelled with medical mission teams to Central America and Africa. They have a love of the great outdoors, and enjoy skiing, camping, running and cycling. They also share a love of hockey with their three children, and can be found on a local pond playing shinny whenever the conditions are right.

Dr. Matthew Schurter joined Medical Associates of Port Perry in November 2008. He will be seeing family practice patients at the Sunderland Medical Centre as well as providing anaesthetic services at Lakeridge Health Port Perry.
Dr. Schurter completed medical school at Queen's University, residency in family medicine at the University of Ottawa and advanced training in Anaesthesia at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine in Sudbury. He has relocated to Port Perry with his wife, who is a teacher.

Dr. Sue Shepherd graduated from University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1997 and she completed her residency in Family Medicine in 1999.
She then moved to Port Perry and started her Family Practice. She currently works in her office, and the Urgent Care clinic at Medical Associates of Port Perry. She also works at Lakeridge Health, Port Perry in the Emergency Department, provides hospital care for her admitted patients, assists in the Operating Room and Provides Obstetrical Care at the New Life Centre.
Dr. Shepherd is also actively involved in teaching medical students and residents in all parts of her practice and is currently the Medical Director of the Rural Health Services Program at Lakridge Health.

Dr. John I. Stewart graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1972, and has been in family practice in Port Perry since 1975. Presently, his practice includes a full range of general practice and also includes obstetrics, nursing home care, teaching and research. He has been actively involved in guideline development and teaching -- especially in the area of antibiotic use, lipids and diabetes. He has been a member of numerous Advisory Boards both on a local, national and international level. He has particular experience and interest in antibiotic use and resistance, cardiovascular protection, and diabetes. He was very active in the development of the Rural Health Services Program at Lakeridge Health Port Perry, and was able to contribute to a Ministry of Health and Long Term Care JPPC committee developing guidelines for delivery of programs in all small hospitals in Ontario. Port Perry is recognized worldwide for the implementation of the PAACT Program (Partners for Appropriate Anti-infective Community Therapy) which taught appropriate use of antibiotic drugs. Dr. Stewart was the initiator of this program, and was asked to speak in Brussels to the European Union Conference on Appropriate Antibiotic use as the only program from outside Europe invited to present at one of their workshops.
